Directive issued by the US President to manage operations of the federal government, carrying the force of law within the executive branch when grounded in constitutional or statutory authority. Executive orders are numbered and published in the Federal Register.
Example: The President signed an EO directing agencies to review all pending regulations.
Later presidents can revoke them, and courts or Congress can override them. Orders have been numbered since 1907, with earlier ones numbered retroactively, and the count passed 14,000 in the 2020s. Governors and some mayors also issue executive orders under state and local law.
2. Equipment Operator

Seabees who operate bulldozers, graders, excavators, cranes, dump trucks and rock crushers to build roads, airfields and base camps, and run quarry and well-drilling operations.
Example: EO2 Silva cut the new runway shoulder with the motor grader in a single shift.
Equipment operators are central to expeditionary airfield construction, a Seabee specialty since World War II island campaigns in the Pacific. Their civilian counterparts are heavy-equipment operators. In government, EO more often means executive order or equal opportunity.
