EMAC stands for Emergency Management Assistance Compact, an emergency services abbreviation.
Agreement among all 50 US states, the District of Columbia and US territories that allows them to share personnel, equipment and other resources during disasters, with legal protections and reimbursement rules settled in advance.
Example: Florida requested utility crews and search teams from 15 states through EMAC after the hurricane.
Usage notes
Congress ratified the compact in 1996. Requests travel state to state through emergency management agencies. It was used on a large scale after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
