Single person who owns a project, decision or task and is accountable for its outcome, even when many people contribute. Naming a DRI prevents responsibility from becoming diffuse in cross-functional teams.
Example: Every launch blocker in the tracker needs a DRI and a due date by tomorrow's standup.
The practice is associated with Apple and has been adopted by companies such as GitLab, which documents it in its public handbook. A DRI need not do all the work personally but must make sure it gets done and decisions get made.
2. Direct renin inhibitor
Medical · Drug Class Abbreviations
Blood pressure drug class whose only member is aliskiren (Tekturna), which blocks renin, the first step of the renin-angiotensin system. It is rarely used today.
Example: DRI aliskiren discontinued; patient has diabetes and is on lisinopril.
Aliskiren was approved in 2007. The ALTITUDE trial, stopped in 2011, found more strokes, kidney problems and high potassium when aliskiren was added to ACE inhibitors or ARBs in people with diabetes, leading to a contraindication for that combination. Like other renin-angiotensin blockers, it is contraindicated in pregnancy.
