CUN stands for Cancún International Airport, an airport code abbreviation.

Mexico's busiest airport for international travelers, serving the resorts of Cancún, the Riviera Maya and Tulum on the Yucatan Peninsula. Most of its traffic is vacation travel from the US, Canada and Europe.

Example: Spring break flights into CUN were sold out, so we're flying into Tulum instead.

Usage notes

ICAO code MMUN. Cancún was developed by the Mexican government as a planned resort in the 1970s, and the airport grew with it. It has four terminals and handles more international passengers than Mexico City. The newer Tulum airport (TQO) opened in 2023 farther south.
