CJK stands for Chinese, Japanese and Korean, a computer abbreviation.
Grouping used in software, typography and Unicode for the three East Asian writing systems that share Han characters. Fonts, line-breaking rules, text search and input methods are often designed for CJK text as a set.
Example: The font covers Latin and Cyrillic but has no CJK glyphs, so Japanese text falls back to another typeface.
Usage notes
Unicode's "CJK Unified Ideographs" blocks merge Chinese hanzi, Japanese kanji and Korean hanja that share a form, a process called Han unification. The extended label CJKV adds Vietnamese, which historically used chữ Nôm characters. Complete CJK fonts are large because they contain tens of thousands of glyphs; Noto Sans CJK and Source Han Sans are widely used open examples.
