cGMP stands for Current good manufacturing practice, a pharmacy abbreviation.
Regulations that set minimum requirements for the methods, facilities and controls used to make drugs, so that every batch is safe, pure and of consistent strength. In the US they are enforced by FDA inspections.
Example: FDA issued a warning letter citing cGMP violations in the sterile filling area.
Usage notes
US drug cGMP rules are in Title 21 of the Code of Federal Regulations, parts 210 and 211. The lowercase "c" stresses that companies must use current technologies and systems. Drugs made under cGMP violations are legally "adulterated" even if no defect is found in the product.
