cEEG stands for Continuous electroencephalography, a neurology abbreviation.
EEG monitoring lasting hours to days, typically in intensive care units, to detect nonconvulsive seizures, guide treatment of status epilepticus and monitor brain function in coma. Video is often recorded at the same time to correlate events with brain activity.
Example: cEEG for 48 hours in a comatose post-arrest patient: no seizures, reactive background.
Usage notes
Many seizures in critically ill patients produce no visible movements and are found only on EEG. Most seizures detected by monitoring appear within the first 24 hours, but comatose patients may need 48 hours or more. The American Clinical Neurophysiology Society publishes standard terminology for describing ICU EEG patterns.
