1. Civilian Conservation Corps
Government & Politics · Public Program Abbreviations
New Deal work relief program, active from 1933 to 1942, that employed young unmarried men to plant trees, fight fires, build trails and develop state and national parks, with most of their pay sent home to their families.
Example: Many cabins and stone shelters in the state park were built by the CCC.
About 3 million men served in camps run with Army help, typically earning $30 a month, of which $25 went to their families. Enrollees planted an estimated 3 billion trees. Modern conservation corps programs are modeled on it. In agricultural finance, CCC also means the USDA's Commodity Credit Corporation.
2. Cash conversion cycle
Business & Finance · Finance Abbreviations
Number of days between paying for inventory and collecting cash from customers, calculated as DIO plus DSO minus DPO. It shows how long each dollar is tied up in the operating cycle.
Example: Dell famously operated with a negative CCC, collecting from customers before paying suppliers.
A short or negative cycle means operations fund themselves; Amazon and Apple have also reported negative cash conversion cycles. A lengthening CCC can drain cash from a growing company even when it is profitable. Also called the net operating cycle or cash cycle.
3. Catechism of the Catholic Church
Religion · Religious Term Abbreviations
Official summary of Catholic doctrine, promulgated by Pope John Paul II in 1992, with the English translation published in 1994. Its 2,865 numbered paragraphs cover the Creed, the sacraments, moral life and prayer.
Example: The teaching on the Eucharist is summarized in CCC 1324.
Citations give the paragraph number, not the page. In 2018 Pope Francis revised paragraph 2267 to declare the death penalty "inadmissible". A shorter Compendium appeared in 2005, and the youth catechism YOUCAT in 2011.
