CategoriesTexting & Internet Slang

BLW stands for Baby-led weaning, a parenting forum abbreviation.

Approach to starting solid foods, usually around six months, in which babies feed themselves soft finger foods from the family meal rather than being spoon-fed purées.

Example: Doing BLW, so tonight's dinner for the baby was steamed broccoli and salmon.

Usage notes

Popularized by Gill Rapley and Tracey Murkett's 2008 book "Baby-Led Weaning." Parents discuss gagging versus choking, safe food shapes and mess. In British English "weaning" means introducing solids, not stopping breastfeeding.
