BFV stands for Bradley Fighting Vehicle, a weapon and military equipment abbreviation.
US Army tracked infantry fighting vehicle, armed with a 25mm Bushmaster chain gun and TOW missiles. The M2 carries infantry and the M3 cavalry scouts.
Example: Ukrainian BFV crews destroyed Russian tanks during the 2023 counteroffensive.
Usage notes
Named for General of the Army Omar Bradley, the vehicle entered service in 1981. Its troubled development was satirized in the 1998 film The Pentagon Wars. Bradleys proved effective in the 1991 Gulf War, destroying more Iraqi armored vehicles than Abrams tanks by some accounts.
