BDA stands for Battle damage assessment, a military term abbreviation.
Estimate of the damage caused to a target by military force, used to decide whether a target must be struck again and to measure campaign progress.
Example: BDA showed the bridge was cratered but still passable.
Usage notes
BDA combines imagery, intelligence and pilot reports. Overstated assessments have repeatedly misled commanders and the public, from Vietnam-era body counts to strikes on mobile missile launchers in 1991. Assessments are divided into physical damage, functional damage and effects on the overall target system.
