BBE stands for Best before end, a cooking abbreviation.

Date label on British, Irish and other Commonwealth packaging for long-life foods such as cereals, tins and frozen goods, followed by a month and year. It marks the end of peak quality, not a safety deadline.

Example: BBE 08/2027: store in a cool, dry place and use within three days of opening.

Usage notes

UK food guidance distinguishes best before dates, after which food can still be eaten if stored properly, from use by dates, which apply to perishable foods and should not be exceeded. Shorter-life products use "best before" with a day and month. In the US, the closest equivalent is "best if used by".
