AMQP stands for Advanced Message Queuing Protocol, a programming abbreviation.
An open wire-level protocol for message-oriented middleware, defining how clients and brokers exchange queued messages reliably. RabbitMQ supports it, and Azure Service Bus uses AMQP 1.0.
Example: The payment service publishes events to RabbitMQ over AMQP with publisher confirms enabled.
Usage notes
Originated at JPMorgan Chase in 2003 under John O'Hara to replace costly proprietary messaging; AMQP 1.0 became an OASIS standard in 2012 and an ISO/IEC standard in 2014. Version 0-9-1, implemented by RabbitMQ, differs substantially from 1.0.
