1. Annual general meeting
Business & Finance · Management & Strategy Abbreviations
Yearly meeting of a company's shareholders, or of a club's or association's members, at which directors present the accounts, members vote on resolutions and board members are elected or re-elected. Public companies in most jurisdictions are legally required to hold one.
Example: Shareholders will vote on the new remuneration policy at the AGM on 22 May.
AGM is the standard term in the UK, Ireland, India, Australia and other Commonwealth countries; in the US the usual phrase is "annual meeting of shareholders." Under the UK Companies Act 2006, public companies must hold an AGM within six months of their financial year-end, while private companies generally need not. Any other meeting of members is an EGM or simply a general meeting.
2. Assistant general manager
Business & Finance · Job Title Abbreviations
Management rank below general manager and, in some companies, below deputy general manager, with responsibility for a function or part of operations. The title is common in hotels, restaurants, retail stores and Indian corporate hierarchies.
Example: The restaurant's AGM handles scheduling, inventory and the closing shift.
In US hospitality and retail, the AGM is often second-in-command at a single location. In corporate governance, AGM far more commonly means annual general meeting of shareholders, so the surrounding text decides the meaning.
