Studio-focused two-year degree in visual art, music, theater, dance or creative writing with a larger share of portfolio or performance courses than an AA. Students often use it as the first half of a BFA at a four-year art school or university.
Example: His AFA portfolio included figure drawing, ceramics and two semesters of digital illustration.
Written A.F.A. in AP style. Because more credits go to the major, an AFA may leave some general education requirements unfinished at transfer. It is much less common than the AA, and many colleges simply award an AA with an art or music emphasis instead.
2. Association of Flight Attendants-CWA

Largest union of flight attendants in the United States, representing cabin crews at about 20 airlines, and an affiliate of the Communications Workers of America.
Example: AFA members picketed outside the terminal for a first contract.
Founded in 1945 as the Air Line Stewardesses Association, it affiliated with the CWA in 2004. It led campaigns for the 2020 Payroll Support Program that kept airline workers employed during the pandemic and for a ban on smoking on flights. In the military, AFA means the Air Force Academy.
