AEP stands for Annual Enrollment Period, a health insurance abbreviation.

Medicare's fall window, October 15 to December 7 each year, when beneficiaries can switch between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage, change Medicare Advantage plans, or join, switch or drop Part D drug plans. Changes take effect January 1.

Example: AEP reminder: review your drug plan's formulary changes before December 7.

Usage notes

Often loosely called Medicare open enrollment. Plans send an Annual Notice of Change by the end of September so members can compare costs for the coming year. Medicare's online Plan Finder lets users enter their medications to compare total annual costs.
