CategoriesMedical

AC-T stands for Adriamycin (doxorubicin) and cyclophosphamide followed by Taxol (paclitaxel), a hematology and oncology abbreviation.

Breast cancer chemotherapy regimen given before or after surgery: four cycles of doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide followed by paclitaxel, either weekly or every two weeks. Dose-dense scheduling every two weeks requires growth factor support.

Example: High-risk node-positive breast cancer: dose-dense AC-T, pegfilgrastim after each AC cycle.

Usage notes

The CALGB 9741 trial (2003) showed that giving the regimen every two weeks instead of three improved survival. Doxorubicin carries a cumulative risk of heart damage, so heart function is checked before treatment. For HER2-positive disease trastuzumab is added during the paclitaxel phase, and for triple-negative disease pembrolizumab is combined with chemotherapy.
