2 Pet. stands for 2 Peter, a Bible book abbreviation.
Three-chapter letter attributed to Peter, warning against false teachers and explaining the delay of Christ's return: "one day is with the Lord as a thousand years" (3:8). Many scholars consider it one of the latest New Testament writings.
Example: The thousand-years saying in 2 Pet. 3:8 is often cited in debates about creation.
Usage notes
Short forms use 2 Pt, while SBL writes 2 Pet. Its authorship was questioned even in the early church, and it was among the last books accepted into the canon. Much of chapter 2 closely parallels the Letter of Jude.
