Highest and most expensive Indian Railways travel class, with lockable two- or four-berth cabins, bedding and meals on some trains. 1A coaches are available on premium and long-distance trains.

Example: We splurged on 1A for the overnight trip so the kids could have a private cabin.

Usage notes

Usually only one 1A coach is attached, if any, so tickets sell out quickly. Fares can rival budget airline prices. Rajdhani Express trains often include 1A coaches. Executive class on chair-car trains is a separate category.
