Z2 stands for Zone 2, a fitness and exercise abbreviation.
Easy aerobic training intensity, usually about 60 to 70 percent of maximum heart rate, at which a person can still hold a conversation. It builds aerobic base and fat-burning capacity.
Example: Three hours of Z2 riding this week, plus one interval session.
Usage notes
Heart-rate zone systems usually have five zones, with zone 2 the second-lowest. Physiologist Inigo San Millan and podcaster Peter Attia helped popularize Z2 training in the 2020s. Endurance athletes often spend about 80 percent of their training at easy intensities.
