EAA stands for Essential amino acids, a fitness and exercise abbreviation.
Nine amino acids the human body cannot make and must get from food: histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan and valine. EAA supplements contain all nine.
Example: An EAA blend gives you every amino acid needed to build muscle protein.
Usage notes
Animal proteins, soy and some combinations of plant foods provide all nine essential amino acids. The three branched-chain amino acids are a subset of the EAAs. Supplements are mostly unnecessary with a varied, adequate diet.
