YPA stands for Yards per attempt, an American football abbreviation.

Passing efficiency stat: passing yards divided by pass attempts. Adjusted yards per attempt (AY/A) adds bonuses for touchdowns and penalties for interceptions.

Example: His 8.9 YPA ranked first among starting quarterbacks.

Usage notes

Also written Y/A. Analysts consider YPA a better efficiency measure than total yards because it controls for volume. Net yards per attempt (NY/A) also subtracts sack yardage. For rushers the same idea is usually called yards per carry.
