WFL stands for Within functional limits, a rehabilitation abbreviation.
Rehabilitation term stating that a measurement, such as strength or range of motion, may not be fully normal but is sufficient for the patient's everyday tasks. It is common in therapy evaluations.
Example: BUE ROM WFL for ADLs; mild shoulder stiffness noted.
Usage notes
Differs from WNL (within normal limits), which implies a normal value. Older adults often have reduced but functional motion. Because WFL is a judgment, many therapists add measured values when the finding matters for goals or discharge.
