WBAT stands for Weight bearing as tolerated, a rehabilitation abbreviation.
Postoperative or injury order allowing the patient to put as much weight on the affected limb as comfort allows, up to full weight. It is common after joint replacements and stable fracture fixations.
Example: PT: RLE WBAT with FWW, ambulated 120 ft with CGA.
Usage notes
The surgeon sets weight-bearing status, and therapists and nurses must follow it exactly. Pain usually limits weight early, and patients progress naturally. Orders should name the limb, as in "WBAT LLE".
