UNESCO stands for United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, an international organization abbreviation.

Usage notes
Its constitution was adopted in November 1945. The United States withdrew in 1984, rejoined in 2003, left again in 2018 and rejoined in 2023, and in July 2025 announced another withdrawal effective at the end of 2026. The World Heritage Convention dates from 1972. It is pronounced "you-NESS-ko".
