U/A stands for Under agreement, an estate and family law abbreviation.
Notation in trust account titles showing that the trust was created by a written trust agreement, usually followed by DTD and the date the agreement was signed. It distinguishes a living trust from a testamentary trust created under a will, written U/W.
Example: The account is titled "Mary Chen TTEE U/A DTD 06/15/2018 FBO Chen Family Trust".
Usage notes
Variants include U/T/A (under trust agreement) and U/D/T (under declaration of trust). Financial institutions ask for a certification of trust, or the agreement's first and signature pages, to verify the trustee's authority.
