TTYL stands for Talk to you later, a texting and chat abbreviation.
Standard sign-off ending a conversation with the expectation of resuming it later. One of the defining abbreviations of the instant-messaging era, still widely used.
Example: Gotta finish this project, ttyl and good luck tonight!
Usage notes
Lauren Myracle's 2004 young-adult novel "ttyl," written entirely in instant messages, made the abbreviation a title. Variants include ttyl8r and ttys (talk to you soon). Friendly and acceptable in informal work chat.
