1. Teaspoon

The smallest common measuring spoon, used for leaveners, salt, spices and extracts. A US teaspoon holds about 4.93 mL, almost always rounded to 5 mL; three teaspoons make a tablespoon and six make one fluid ounce.
Example: Add 1 tsp baking soda, 1/2 tsp salt and 2 tsp ground cinnamon to the dry ingredients.
Written lowercase, sometimes with a period (tsp.), and occasionally shortened to a lowercase t. The 5 mL teaspoon is effectively universal, unlike the tablespoon, which is larger in Australia. A level teaspoon is assumed unless the recipe says heaped or rounded. For liquid medicines, pediatric and pharmacy groups recommend dosing in mL only, because household spoons vary widely in size.
2. Thrift Savings Plan (TSP)

Defined contribution retirement plan for US federal civilian employees and members of the uniformed services, offering traditional and Roth options much like a 401(k). It is known for very low costs and a short menu: the G, F, C, S and I index funds plus target-date L Funds.
Example: After leaving the Army, he kept his TSP in place because its fees were lower than any IRA he could find.
Established by the Federal Employees' Retirement System Act of 1986 and administered by the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board. FERS employees receive an automatic agency contribution of 1% of pay plus matching that brings the total to as much as 5%. The G Fund holds special-issue Treasury securities that cannot lose principal, a feature found in no other US retirement plan.
