TBF stands for To be fair, a texting and chat abbreviation.
Introduces a concession or a balancing point, often defending someone or admitting a weakness in one's own argument, as in "tbf, he did apologize." Common on Twitter, Reddit and in British and Australian chat.
Example: Tbf the restaurant was packed, so the slow service makes sense.
Usage notes
Particularly popular in British English, where "to be fair" is a frequent spoken filler. It signals reasonableness and usually lowers the temperature of a debate. Acceptable in casual work chat. Not to be confused with TBD (to be determined), the scheduling term.
