Spr stands for Sapper, a british military rank abbreviation.

Private soldier of the Corps of Royal Engineers, the British Army's military engineers, who build bridges, clear mines, construct defences and demolish obstacles. Many other Commonwealth engineer corps use the same title.

Example: Spr Morris helped build the bridge across the flooded river in under six hours.

Usage notes

The word comes from "sap," a trench dug toward an enemy fortification during a siege, from the French "sappe." Engineers of all ranks are called sappers informally, and the Royal Engineers' headquarters and training are centred around Chatham in Kent and Minley in Hampshire.
