1. Right wing
Sports · Ice Hockey Abbreviations
Forward who plays primarily on the right side of the ice, opposite the left wing on the same line. Right wings attack down that flank and defend the opposing point on that side.
Example: Lineup update: the rookie moves up to RW on the top line tonight.
Gordie Howe ("Mr. Hockey"), Maurice Richard, Jaromir Jagr and Mike Bossy all played right wing. Line combinations are usually written left wing-center-right wing. In standings RW instead means regulation wins.
2. Right winger
Sports · Soccer (Association Football) Abbreviations
Attacker who plays on the right side of the front line, typically delivering crosses or, if left-footed, cutting inside to shoot. Right wingers are among a team's main goal sources in modern systems.
Example: Salah, nominally the RW, scored 29 league goals that season.
Arjen Robben's cut inside from the right onto his left foot became one of the most recognizable moves in the game. Mohamed Salah has used a similar pattern for Liverpool. In hockey, RW means right wing.
3. Rolling walker
Medical · Rehabilitation Abbreviations
Walker with wheels on the front legs, the same device as a front-wheeled walker, used for patients needing support for balance or limited weight bearing.
Example: Ambulates household distances with RW, Mod I, uses brakes on BSC.
Some notes use RW and FWW interchangeably, while others use RW loosely for any wheeled walker, including four-wheeled rollators, so clarifying the type matters for equipment orders. Standard pickup walkers without wheels give more stability for strict non-weight-bearing.
4. Rwanda
Geography & Places · Country Code Abbreviations
Rwanda, capital Kigali, alpha-3 RWA, has the world's highest share of women in parliament and banned plastic bags in 2008. The country is rebuilding after the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi, in which an estimated 800,000 people were killed.
Example: Gorilla trekking permits in RW cost about 1,500 US dollars.
On the last Saturday of each month Rwandans take part in umuganda, mandatory community service. Kinyarwanda, English, French and Swahili are official languages.
5. Regulation wins
Sports · Ice Hockey Abbreviations
NHL standings column counting games won within 60 minutes, without overtime or a shootout. It has been the first tiebreaker between teams level on points since the 2019-20 season.
Example: The team edged its division rival for the last playoff spot on the RW tiebreaker.
The tiebreaker rewards winning in regulation because those games award all points to one team. Before 2019-20 the first tiebreaker was ROW, which also counted overtime wins. Do not confuse it with RW for the right wing position.
