RRMS stands for Relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis, a neurology abbreviation.
Most common initial form of multiple sclerosis, affecting about 85 percent of people at diagnosis, in which distinct attacks of new or worsening symptoms are followed by partial or complete recovery. Between relapses the disease appears stable.
Example: RRMS with two relapses in 18 months on interferon; escalating to a high-efficacy DMT.
Usage notes
More than 20 disease-modifying therapies are approved for relapsing forms of MS, and early use of high-efficacy treatment is increasingly favored. A relapse must last at least 24 hours without fever or infection, which can cause "pseudo-relapses." Without treatment, many people with RRMS eventually transition to secondary progressive MS.
