Founded in 1824 in Troy, New York, by Stephen Van Rensselaer, RPI is the oldest technological research university in the English-speaking world. It is known for engineering, architecture and game design.
Example: She studied aeronautical engineering at RPI and joined a jet engine maker after graduation.
The school now brands itself "Rensselaer". Its alumni include Washington Roebling, chief engineer of the Brooklyn Bridge, and George Ferris, inventor of the Ferris wheel. Its hockey team won national titles in 1954 and 1985.
