File format of PowerPoint 97 to 2003 and earlier, storing slides, notes, images and animations in a binary structure. Many people also use "PPT" as shorthand for any slide deck.

PowerPoint began as Presenter, created by Robert Gaskins and Dennis Austin at Forethought, and was released for the Macintosh in 1987; Microsoft bought Forethought that year for about 14 million dollars. Its ubiquity inspired the phrase "death by PowerPoint" for slide-heavy talks. Modern PowerPoint saves PPTX by default but still opens PPT files.

Lab-notebook shorthand for a solid that forms and settles out of solution during a reaction, such as the white silver chloride produced when silver nitrate meets a chloride solution. Precipitation tests are the classic qualitative analysis for identifying ions.
Example: Addition of barium chloride gave a white ppt, indicating sulfate ions.
Also used as a verb, as in "the product was ppt'd from cold ether." In environmental and analytical contexts ppt more often means parts per trillion, so context is essential. Gravimetric analysis weighs a dried precipitate to determine how much of an ion was present.
