Pkwy stands for Parkway, an address abbreviation.
Landscaped road designed for scenic driving through parkland, often closed to trucks; the Bronx River Parkway, completed in 1925, and the Blue Ridge Parkway are classic examples. In many suburbs a parkway is simply a wide divided road.
Example: Commercial vehicles are banned on the Taconic State Pkwy because of its low bridges.
Usage notes
USPS lists PKWY; Pky is an older variant. The joke about driving on a parkway and parking on a driveway comes from the original meaning, a road through a park. Low stone overpasses on New York parkways regularly trap trucks whose drivers ignore the ban.
