PACG stands for Primary angle-closure glaucoma, an ophthalmology & ENT abbreviation.
Glaucoma in which the iris blocks the eye's drainage angle, raising pressure. It may develop slowly or as an acute attack with a painful red eye, blurred vision, halos around lights, headache, nausea and a mid-dilated pupil, an emergency that can cause blindness within hours.
Example: Acute PACG OS: IOP 58, cloudy cornea, fixed mid-dilated pupil; timolol, apraclonidine, acetazolamide, then LPI.
Usage notes
Angle closure is more common in people of East Asian descent, in women and in farsighted eyes. Dilating drops and some medications with anticholinergic effects can trigger an attack in narrow angles. Laser peripheral iridotomy prevents recurrence, and cataract removal also widens the angle. Pronounced as letters.
