OPOY stands for Offensive Player of the Year, an American football abbreviation.
Annual NFL award for the best offensive player, voted by a national panel for the Associated Press and presented at NFL Honors before the Super Bowl. It often goes to a record-setting non-quarterback in years when a quarterback wins MVP.
Example: Saquon Barkley won AP OPOY after rushing for more than 2,000 yards in 2024.
Usage notes
The AP has presented it since 1972. Defensive Player of the Year, the two Rookie of the Year awards, Comeback Player of the Year and Coach of the Year are announced at the same ceremony. Since 2022 voters have ranked five players on each ballot instead of picking one.
