O&P stands for Ova and parasites, a laboratory test abbreviation.

Microscopic examination of stool for helminth eggs (ova), larvae and protozoa such as Giardia and Entamoeba. It is used for persistent diarrhea after travel, in immigrants and refugees, and when eosinophilia or unexplained abdominal symptoms suggest a parasite.

Example: Stool O&P x3 ordered for diarrhea after a trek in Nepal.

Usage notes

Because shedding is intermittent, three specimens collected on separate days are traditionally recommended. Many labs now test for Giardia and Cryptosporidium with antigen or multiplex PCR panels, which are faster and more sensitive than microscopy. Specimens go in preservative containers supplied by the lab.
