NSR stands for Normal sinus rhythm, a cardiology abbreviation.
Standard heart rhythm generated by the sinoatrial node at 60 to 100 beats per minute in adults, with an upright P wave before every QRS complex in lead II and a consistent PR interval. It is the reference rhythm against which arrhythmias are described.
Example: 12-lead ECG: NSR at 72 bpm, normal axis, no acute ST or T-wave changes.
Usage notes
Below 60 the rhythm is called sinus bradycardia and above 100 sinus tachycardia, though some cardiologists use 50 to 90 as the normal range. NSR describes the rhythm only and says nothing about structural heart disease or ischemia. After cardioversion or ablation, "maintaining NSR" is a common treatment goal.
