NGB stands for National Guard Bureau, a military unit and organization abbreviation.
Federal organization in the Pentagon that administers the Army and Air National Guard, channels policy and funding between the services and the states, and coordinates Guard support in national emergencies.
Example: NGB said more than 10,000 Guard members were supporting the hurricane response.
Usage notes
The chief of the National Guard Bureau, a four-star general, became a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff under a law enacted in late 2011. The bureau does not command Guard units directly; governors and the adjutants general of each state do so in peacetime.
