MPRE stands for Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination, a legal profession abbreviation.

Two-hour, 60-question multiple-choice exam on legal ethics and professional conduct rules, required for bar admission in nearly every US jurisdiction. It is taken separately from the bar exam, usually during law school.

Example: Most students take the MPRE in the spring of their second year, after the professional responsibility course.

Usage notes

Introduced in 1980 by the National Conference of Bar Examiners. Fifty questions are scored and ten are unscored pretest items. Questions draw mainly on the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct and the Model Code of Judicial Conduct. Required scaled scores range from 75 to 86, depending on the jurisdiction, and the test is given by computer several times a year.
