MDMP stands for Military decision-making process, a military term abbreviation.
Army seven-step planning method used by staffs to analyze a mission and produce an order: receipt of mission, mission analysis, course of action development, course of action analysis (war gaming), comparison, approval and orders production.
Example: The staff spent 18 hours on MDMP before briefing three courses of action to the commander.
Usage notes
Small units use the simpler troop leading procedures instead. The Marine Corps uses a similar Marine Corps Planning Process, and joint staffs follow the joint planning process. Command and staff colleges devote much of their curriculum to MDMP.
