L/100 km stands for Liters per 100 kilometers, an engineering unit abbreviation.

Fuel consumption measure used in Europe, Canada, Australia and most metric countries: the liters of fuel a vehicle burns to travel 100 km. Lower numbers are better, and a compact car might use 5 to 7 L/100 km.

Example: Official combined consumption: 6.2 L/100 km, CO2 emissions 143 g/km.

Usage notes

Unlike mpg, the scale is linear in fuel used, so reductions are easy to compare. Divide 235.2 by the L/100 km figure to get US mpg, or 282.5 for UK mpg. Electric cars in these markets are rated in kWh/100 km.
