ksi stands for Kilopounds per square inch, an engineering unit abbreviation.
A thousand psi, the US unit for material strength and stress in structural and mechanical engineering. Common A36 structural steel has a minimum yield strength of 36 ksi, and A992 wide-flange beams 50 ksi.
Example: The bolts are ASTM A325, with a minimum tensile strength of 120 ksi.
Usage notes
One ksi equals about 6.895 MPa. US steel grades are often named by yield strength in ksi, so Grade 60 rebar yields at 60 ksi. The modulus of elasticity of steel is about 29,000 ksi.
