1. Interception
Sports · American Football Abbreviations
Pass caught by a defensive player, giving his team possession. Box scores list interceptions under INT both for the defender and as a passing statistic against the quarterback.
Example: The quarterback finished 22 of 35 with two TDs and one INT.
A "pick-six" is an interception returned for a touchdown. Paul Krause holds the NFL career record with 81 interceptions, and Night Train Lane set the single-season mark of 14 in 1952, in a 12-game season. In screenplays INT. marks an interior scene.
2. Intermittent needle therapy (intermittent infusion device)
Medical · Nursing Abbreviations
Capped peripheral IV catheter kept in place for scheduled or emergency medications without continuous fluids. Nurses chart it as an INT to show the line is present but not infusing.
Example: IV fluids discontinued, line converted to INT, flushed q8h and PRN.
Used interchangeably with saline lock (SL) and the older "hep lock". The cap is a needleless connector that must be scrubbed with alcohol or chlorhexidine for several seconds before every access, a step known as "scrub the hub". Intermittent devices still count as IV access for fall-risk and line-day tracking.
3. Intelligence
Texting & Internet Slang · Gaming Slang Abbreviations
Ability score measuring reasoning, memory and knowledge in Dungeons & Dragons and RPGs, used for investigation and arcana checks and as the spellcasting stat for wizards.
Example: Our wizard has 20 INT but still opened the obviously trapped chest.
Players joke about low-INT characters played as lovable fools. In many video-game RPGs INT boosts magic damage or mana. In MOBA slang "inting" means intentionally feeding, and INT is also a common abbreviation for "international."
4. Intentionally feeding
Texting & Internet Slang · Gaming Slang Abbreviations
Deliberately dying again and again to give the enemy team gold and experience, a form of griefing in MOBAs such as League of Legends and Dota 2. Used as a verb, "he's inting."
Example: Report our top laner, he's inting on purpose.
Riot Games and Valve punish deliberate inting with chat restrictions, queue penalties and bans, and players report it under "griefing." Teammates sometimes accuse a merely struggling player of inting, which is itself unsportsmanlike. In RPGs INT means intelligence, a character stat.
5. Interior (INT.)
Arts & Entertainment · Film, Television and Theater Abbreviations
Screenplay scene-heading prefix indicating that a scene takes place indoors, followed by the location and time of day, as in "INT. KITCHEN - NIGHT".
Example: INT. POLICE STATION - INTERROGATION ROOM - NIGHT
Scene headings are also called sluglines. Production staff use them to break down scripts into shooting schedules. In football box scores INT means interception.
