HUMINT stands for Human intelligence, a military term abbreviation.

Intelligence collected from people, through interrogation, debriefing, informants and espionage, as opposed to technical means such as satellites or intercepts. It remains essential for understanding intentions and local networks.

Example: HUMINT from a village elder led the patrol to the weapons cache.

Usage notes

Military HUMINT collectors in the Army hold the MOS 35M, while the CIA and the Defense Intelligence Agency run clandestine human sources. Pronounced "HUE-mint." Human sources can provide intentions and plans that technical collection cannot, but they are slower to develop and vulnerable to deception.
