HSPA stands for High Speed Packet Access, a telecom abbreviation.
Upgrade to 3G UMTS networks that greatly increased data speeds, combining HSDPA for downloads and HSUPA for uploads. Phones show "H" or "H+" when connected.
Example: The phone shows H+, meaning it is on HSPA, so downloads are slower than 4G but fine for email.
Usage notes
HSDPA launched around 2005 and 2006 with speeds up to 14.4 Mbit/s, and HSPA+ (3GPP Release 7) raised peak rates to 21 and later 42 Mbit/s with dual-carrier operation. Some carriers, notably T-Mobile US in 2010, marketed HSPA+ as 4G. HSPA networks were widely shut down along with 3G.
