HoD stands for Head of department, a job title abbreviation.

Person in charge of a department in a company, school, university or hospital, responsible for its staff, budget and performance. The abbreviation is common in British, Indian and other Commonwealth organizations.

Example: All HoDs must submit next year's budget requests by the end of the month.

Usage notes

In UK and Indian schools, the HoD leads a subject department such as mathematics, and in Indian colleges the HoD is a formal academic post. In US universities, the equivalent is usually "department chair." Plural HoDs.
