HEXACO stands for Honesty-humility, emotionality, extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, openness, a psychology abbreviation.
Six-factor personality model that adds honesty-humility, covering sincerity, fairness, greed avoidance and modesty, to dimensions similar to the Big Five. The HEXACO Personality Inventory measures all six.
Example: Low HEXACO honesty-humility scores predicted willingness to cheat in the experiment.
Usage notes
Kibeom Lee and Michael Ashton developed the model in the early 2000s after lexical studies in several languages found six rather than five major factors. Emotionality and agreeableness are defined somewhat differently than in the Big Five. Honesty-humility is linked to lower workplace deviance and ethical behavior.
