FTW stands for For the win, a texting and chat abbreviation.

Enthusiastic tag praising something as excellent, as in "pizza ftw" or "naps ftw." Used in comments, tweets and gaming chat, sometimes sarcastically.

Example: Rain all weekend, so blanket forts and movies ftw.

Usage notes

The phrase "for the win" was used by sports announcers and game-show hosts long before the internet; a popular story credits the show "Hollywood Squares," but that origin is unconfirmed. The abbreviation spread through online gaming in the early 2000s and then across the internet. Light in tone and acceptable in casual work chat celebrating small wins.
